Sky Shot: Bringing Real Locations into 3D Visualisation

Connecting real-world surroundings with 3D Perspective and 3D Animation.

Bringing visuals, lighting, sound, and interaction together to make each stage of a visit meaningful. A development’s story becomes more complete when viewers can see what surrounds it: roads, green spaces, neighbouring buildings, and views stretching into the distance. Sky Shot, or aerial drone photography, is one of the steps in DEC MEDIA’s workflow, bringing imagery of real locations into project presentations.learer understanding of the brand.

PLANNING THE VIEW BEFORE THE SHOOT

Planning starts with the images needed for the final presentation. The team considers the camera’s direction, angle, altitude, and time of day to capture footage that matches the intended 3D views and atmosphere.

For 3D Perspective, aerial photographs can provide a background that places a proposed building within its real surroundings. For 3D Animation, the direction and pace of camera movement also matter, helping the footage blend smoothly with the 3D imagery.

BRINGING REAL FOOTAGE AND 3D INTO ONE SCENE

After the shoot, the team combines selected images with the project’s 3D model, matching perspective, scale, lighting, shadows, and colour. Moving footage may also require camera tracking to keep the proposed building correctly positioned within the scene throughout each shot. The result helps viewers understand both the development and its location: where the building sits and how it relates to the surrounding area.

At DEC MEDIA, Sky Shot connects on-location filming with the 3D production process, from planning camera angles to the final composite. Together, these steps present a vision of the development within the context of its real location.
