Behind the scenes with DEC MEDIA Thailand, from preparing the projectors to aligning animated graphics with a car’s bodywork.
Car projection mapping uses projectors and software to align digital visuals with a vehicle’s surface. It allows colours, patterns,
and animation to follow the car’s shape, changing its appearance without altering the paint or bodywork.
At DEC MEDIA, bringing this experience to life involves content design, equipment setup, and careful adjustments on site.
Here is how these elements come together.
PREPARING THE PROJECTION MAPPING EQUIPMENT
The team begins by preparing the projectors and lenses, then mounting the equipment on a support structure in suitable positions.
A computer controls the projection mapping content and allows the team to adjust how it fits the car.
Positioning matters because a vehicle has curves, recesses, and surfaces facing different directions. Unlike a flat screen, these surfaces
require the projected image to be adjusted to their shape. This is a key part of 3D projection mapping: making digital content fit a
three-dimensional object.
ALIGNING THE VISUALS WITH THE CAR
Next comes test projection. The team checks whether each graphic appears where intended. A line designed to follow the bodywork,
for example, should align with the car’s curves.
This requires checking the actual vehicle while adjusting the image on the computer. A design that looks right on screen may still need
changes when projected onto the car. Once aligned, light and animated graphics highlight the vehicle’s details. Changing patterns create
different looks throughout the presentation, giving the audience a fresh view of the same car.
For DEC MEDIA Thailand, car projection mapping brings creativity and technical preparation together. Content design determines what
the audience sees, while equipment setup and on-site adjustments make it work on the physical vehicle.
That is the story behind “Beyond the Surface”: the planning, testing, and teamwork that turn projected graphics into a visual experience.
